What are the differences between the FutureHoop models?

MoodHoops Design Remote and Performance Remote

There are three different FutureHoops, the Shuffle, Remote and Pro. The FutureHoop Pro and FutureHoop Remote hoops use the same software and both come with remote controls. There is no difference in the patterns or usability between the Pro and Remote FutureHoops, the main difference is how the hoops are powered and charged, as well as the weight of the hoops.

The FutureHoop Remote and FutureHoop Shuffle weigh the same, as the way the hoop body is built is the same, even though the software is different. The FutureHoop Pro weighs on average approximately 2 ounces lighter than the other FutureHoops in the same size. You can view all the FutureHoop weights here: http://moodhoops.com/faqs/futurehoop-weights/

FutureHoop Shuffle:

The FutureHoop Shuffle changes the pattern, colors and animation style every 5-8 seconds in 3 of the 4 Special Modes, giving you hooping experience that is both familiar and refreshing. The on/off switch of the hoop is used to click through to the next Special Mode. The patterns shuffle continuously, but don’t allow stopping on a pattern, keeping the focus on a more ready-to-play design, so you can focus on your flow. There are 4 Special Modes in the FutureHoop Shuffle: Motif, Spiral, Iso, and Galaxy.

FutureHoop Remote & FutureHoop Shuffle Removable Battery design:

The FutureHoop Shuffle and Remote uses a removable battery design that allows you to swap in a new battery when the current one runs out of juice. Each battery will last 2-3 hours, depending on which Special Mode you’re in.

The removable battery design creates a break in the lights, as the battery is encased by an outer cuff.  To allow the battery to be removable, a slightly larger piece of tubing is used to encase the battery and is used as a closure for the hoop. You can also fully collapse this style of hoop, through this is done at your own risk, and may be especially risky in the smaller hoop diameters. Kinked or creased tubing is not covered by the warranty. FutureHoop Remote:

The FutureHoop Remote uses the same remote controls as the FutureHoop Pro and comes with all of the same patterns and usability. The main difference is that the FutureHoop Pro has internal batteries and can only be recharged using a USB cord. The on/off mechanism, as well as the way to change through to the next Special Mode, even if you don’t have your remote controls, is to turn the hoop off and then on again. This will allow you to navigate through the click-through menus that are the Special Modes.

The FutureHoop Remote uses the same removable battery design as the FutureHoop Shuffle and all Classic LED Moodhoops. Because the battery is removable, this means you can continue hooping with full visuals as long as you have extra charged batteries on hand. You can also use the Brightness button on your remote controls to dim the lights and preserve the battery life. FutureHoop Pro:

The FutureHoop Pro uses the same remote controls as the FutureHoop Remote and comes with all of the same patterns and usability. The FutureHoop Pro uses internal batteries that cannot be removed. The internal batteries allows this hoop to be on average 2 ounces lighter than its FutureHoop Remote counterpart in the same size.

This hoop is charged using mini USB, which can be done from your wall outlet, car charger or laptop/computer. Unlike the removable battery design that allows you to keep using the hoop as long as you have extra charged batteries, this hoop will need to be recharged every 2-5 hours, depending on the patterns being used. You can also use the Brightness button on your remote controls to dim the lights and preserve the battery life longer.

Does the FutureHoop have a battery gap?

FutureHoop Pro features a no battery-gap design and internal batteries that charge via USB. At the the on/off closure there is one small segment of lights removed to make room for the switch. The brightness of the lights and movement of the hoop make this hard to see for most patterns and especially when the hoop is in motion. FutureHoop and FutureHoop Remote have a battery gap where the removable battery is able to be changed out. This removable battery design lets you run full color visuals all night long as long as you have new batteries. Each FutureHoop and FutureHoop Remote is shipped with four batteries, which are compatible with your regular MoodHoop, and a wall charger. FutureHoop patterns are designed with the gap in mind to create an attractive negative space effect. You can see a photo of the removable battery design, and the great benefits, on our MoodHoops Hoop Features page.

Are FutureHoops available in polypro?

The standard FutureHoop build is in HDPE tubing, as this tubing is more resilient against impacts and the stresses of normal hooping.

Looking for the FutureHoop Remote in Polypro? FutureHoop Pro uses a lightweight hoop build that uses internal batteries that are not removable. This new lightweight build is available in both HDPE and Polypro, but currently only as the remote control version of FutureHoop Pro.

The original FutureHoop is available in Polypro in the same build style as classic Moodhoops. Check out a picture on our Hoop Features page.

All Polypro FutureHoop options are available for order on this page: http://moodhoops.com/polypro-futurehoops/

We definitely recommend HDPE for all LED hoops, as it’s the most durable option for tubing.

If you would still like to purchase a hoop in polypro, please use this page to add the FutureHoop in PolyPro to your cart.

Can I get my FutureHoop in a custom size?

All FutureHoop models are available in these Standard Sizes, all in ¾” tubing: 38” OD, 36” OD, 33” OD, and 30” OD.

**FutureHoop Pro (lightweight build + remote) is not available in 38” OD**

FutureHoop models are also available in the following Custom Sizes, all in ¾” tubing: 34” OD, 32” OD, 31” OD, and 29” OD.

Custom FutureHoop Sizes in HDPE

Custom FutureHoop Sizes in Polypro

Are you looking for a Custom Size FutureHoop in a size not listed here? Please fill out the FutureHoop Custom Sizes Mailing List.

Do FutureMinis come in Polypro tubing?

FutureMinis are currently only available in HDPE tubing, as the more flexible tubing allows the small rings of the minis to keep a good shape. The sizes available and the HDPE tubing brought out the best results for minis that had a good overall shape :)

What kind of grip are used on the Minis?

FutureHoop Minis come taped with clear 3M tape, which has excellent grip and allows the remote control signal to pass through.

Will a programmable FutureHoop be offered?

Now that the FutureHoop Remote hoop is released we will begin working on a programmable hoop that you can use to create your own patterns and upload custom logos.

Is the FutureHoop collapsible?

Each FutureHoop model has a snap button closure so it can be opened, which allows the hoop to be collapsible, so it can be coiled down for travel. Depending on how comfortable you are collapsing your hoop will ultimately determine if it will be fully coiled down. Collapsing your hoop should be done extremely carefully, as kinks or cracks in the tubing are not covered by the Warranty, and can damage your hoop. Check out more information about the collapsible ability of all LED MoodHoops on our Hoop Features page: http://moodhoops.com/hoop-features/

How long does the battery last in a FutureHoop?

The original FutureHoop and FutureHoop Remote use a removable battery design, while the FutureHoop Pro uses internal batteries that are charged via USB. The FutureHoop was designed with power-saving in mind so you can keep hooping with full and bright animations hours into the night.

All MoodHoops use specialty lithium-ion batteries that have special safety considerations and care instructions. Please check out important information about Lithium-ion Battery Safety and Care: http://moodhoops.com/battery-safety

FutureHoop and FutureHoop Remote: (removable battery)

One battery will last 2-3 hours in your FutureHoop, depending on which mode it is on. The removable battery design lets you run full color visuals all night long!

FutureHoop and FutureHoop Remote features the same batteries and removable battery design as other MoodHoops, so you can keep changing out the battery without the need to stop hooping to charge your hoop. Each FutureHoop comes with 4 batteries, but only 1should be used at a time.

FutureHoops that use the remotes can increase battery life by turning down the Brightness!

FutureHoop Pro: (internal batteries) battery run time

Depending on the mode you’re in, the FutureHoop Pro can last 2-5 hours before it would need to be plugged in to charge.

FutureHoop shipping times?

All FutureHoop Remote and FutureHoop Pro hoops will be shipped according to the stated time on the FutureHoop page only.

The original FutureHoop can ship out quickly according to the regular times listed on the Shipping page.

All orders with FutureHoops will be shipped with Signature Confirmation.

Are FutureHoops shipped internationally?

We are happy to ship FutureHoops internationally. All FutureHoop orders will be built according to the Build Times posted on the actual FutureHoop page. All FutureHoop orders will be shipped and delivered in the transit times shown for International orders on the Shipping page. Customs, duties or import fees are not in our control, as they are handled within the country of receipt. We reserve the right not to ship to an international location. We are not able to mark Merchandise as a Gift, as each of our packages are reviewed. We are required by law to include a copy of the invoice on the outside of the package and to state the value of the shipment. The chargers included with our LED products fit into standard US outlets. All products shipped from our company do not include a charger adapter for international outlets. Adapters for the chargers must be purchased separately. Check out Shipping Times and more information for International Orders here: http://moodhoops.com/international Important note about International Repairs, Returns and Exchanges: Please note that return shipping for the FutureHoop is covered by the customer for all repairs, exchanges and returns. We cannot be responsible for lost return packages, please always add Insurance to return shipments.

Can I resize my LED hoop?

We’re unable to resize the hoops, as the LED spacing (Classic LED MoodHoops), LED programming (FutureHoops), build method and counterweights are set specifically to each size. We have seen quite a few successful transactions of hoopers selling their used LED MoodHoops through our Facebook page though! With an audience of 65,000+ and growing, there’s sure to be a happy hopper who would love to get your hoop at a discounted price :) We also have a MoodHoops Tumblr that you can post your hoop. Send us your LED Hoop for sale Post as an “Ask” or a submission and we’ll reblog/post it so other hoopers can check it out :) Feel free to post on both places to increase the chances of a quick sale!

What kind of grip does each hoop come with?

Each Classic LED hoop, Classic LED minis pair, and FutureHoop Shuffle come with sandpaper to add grip to your hoop exactly to your liking. *** Make sure your LED hoop is in the fully closed position before sanding. *** Fire hoops and polypro day hoops also come with sandpaper to add grip to your hoop exactly to your liking. The FutureHoop Pro and FutureHoop Remote hoops come standard with clear, extra grippy 3M tape.

Can I put grip tape on my FutureHoop Remote or FutureHoop Pro?

The FutureHoop Remote and FutureHoop Pro use sensors to be able to pick up the button press signals from the remote controls. It’s best not to use regular grip tape with this hoop, as the grip tape (whether in black or white) blocks the signal and shortens the signal difference. The FutureHoop Remote and FutureHoop Pro come with a special grippy tape that is mostly clear and allows the signal from the remote control through to the hoop.

Is the FutureHoop compatible with regular Moodhoop batteries?

Yes! The FutureHoop and FutureHoop Remote use the same specialty, removable lithium-ion batteries as classic MoodHoops. The small (blue) lithium-ion batteries are the size that the FutureHoop Shuffle and FutureHoop Remote uses. FutureHoop and FutureHoop Remote uses only one battery at a time, but 4 batteries and a charger are included with each size FutureHoop, so you can keep glowing through the night. Important Information about Battery Safety: http://moodhoops.com/battery-safety The FutureHoop Pro features a lightweight build construction that uses internal, non-removable lithium-ion batteries. This hoop build only charges with a USB charger.

Will the FutureHoop be available in 5/8″ OD tubing?

The internal components of the FutureHoop cannot fit into the ultra-thin 5/8″ OD tubing, so this size tubing will not be available for the FutureHoop. FutureHoop Pro features a new lightweight build in ¾” tubing available in HDPE or Polypro. The weight difference between HDPE and Polypro in this lightweight build is fairly minimal, and we always recommend HDPE as the most durable tubing for your LED Hoop.

Can you control the patterns of the FutureHoop?

The new FutureHoop Remote and FutureHoop Pro gives you two remote controls to stop the shuffle, create custom Color Palettes, save your favorites, and queue changes in time to a beat.

The original FutureHoop is designed to continually animate and morph by itself so you can focus on your flow. It has been meticulously refined to generate awesome combinations of geometric patterns, attractive color palettes, and high-speed chaser effects. There are thousands of possible combinations that ensure each dance with your FutureHoop is both familiar and refreshing.

How many seconds does the FutureHoop stay on each pattern?

The FutureHoop Remote and FutureHoop Pro allows you to change your hoop in time to music or seamlessly queue saved patterns at the timing of your choosing. The remote controls that come with these hoops give you direct control over timing changes. The original FutureHoop remixes all the colors and effects every 5 to 8 seconds. It randomizes the change rate so that the changes don’t become predictable and boring. The goal of this hoop is to be just predictable enough that you can flow with it, but just surprising enough that you keep wanting to see what’s next

What is the warranty on the FutureHoop?

The FutureHoop Warranty is listed on the Moodhoops Warranty page here: http://moodhoops.com/warranty

How many batteries are included with a FutureHoop?

Though the FutureHoop Shuffle and FutureHoop Remote only use 1 battery at a time, 4 Lithium-Ion batteries and a charger are included with each FutureHoop. In a FutureHoop Shuffle and FutureHoop Remote, one battery will last 2-3 hours, depending on which mode it is on, and starting from using a new, fully charged battery. These specialty lithium-ion batteries are compatible with classic MoodHoops, so you can glow all night long with all your hoops. LED hoops

What size hoop should I get?

There’s not one single answer to that question, but it’s partially dependent on skill level. The golden rule of hoop sizing is: bigger, heavier hoops are easier to keep up and slower to hoop with. Smaller hoops are lighter and more versatile for dance moves, but more challenging to keep up while core hooping. For all the details, refer to our Hoop Sizing Guide.

How is PolyPro different than HDPE tubing? Should I get a PolyPro LED hoop?

PolyPro is great for day hoops because it is lighter by volume than normal HDPE tubing. This gives you a silky-smooth, lightning-fast hoop for practice and performance. For LED hoops however, it has some disadvantages that you should be aware of.
  • Since LED hoops have batteries and counterweights inside, the lightness of PolyPro is not as noticeable.
  • Whereas HDPE tubing is flexible and absorbs impacts well, PolyPro is brittle and prone to cracking on impacts or when extremely flexed. The added weight of LEDs, batteries, and counterweights only increases the chance of cracking.
Please understand that we can’t Warranty used, cracked PolyPro LED hoops for free, but we are happy to refresh your tubing for a fee. If you are at all unsure about whether you want a PolyPro LED hoop, just get a normal hoop! There’s a reason why HDPE is our default for LED hoops, while PolyPro is our default for lightweight day hoops :)

What does “OD” mean? I see it next to all the measurements…

MoodHoops measures all hoops and tubing thicknesses using the Outer Diameter measurement (OD). Since tubing has both an Outer Diameter and an Inner Diameter, you may see other hoop companies refer to sizes by ID rather than OD. If you are unsure about how to convert the size, please contact us with your desired measurement and tubing thickness and we will help you convert it :)

What size hoop do you recommend for children?

There are a couple of options that may work well for your hooping little one :) LED hoops are such an extra special treat for children and can inspire them and give motivation to learn new tricks and keep going with hooping. Festival Hoops We have recently added a new product to our line of LED hoops called the Festival Hoop. These hoops have 12 LEDs and are in the $48 to $64 price range. One size and style simplicity is what allows us to offer a quality LED hoop at this wonderfully low price. Being less expensive than our classic MoodHoops, this is a good choice for outdoor events, beginners and children :) XL Beginner Hoop – taped, non-LED hoop Another option is one of our taped Beginner Hoops. The Beginner Hoop in the XL size breaks down into segments and turns into a 34″ OD hoop when one segment is removed. This XL size would be great as an option that can work out both for adult guests that are beginner hoopers, as well as the small 34″ OD size for your munchkin :) Please note that if one of the segments are removed and the hoop is stored in this tighter shape the tubing well become more curved and will take extra time to restore it to its original shape when the last segment is added back in. Classic MoodHoops Our classic MoodHoops line offers lots of variety in colors and sizes. The 20-24 LED options that come in the standard sizes give the hoops an extra full and bright effect. The price range for these hoops are $69 to $144 and use a specialty rechargeable lithium-ion battery only. The classic MoodHoops have sizing options ranging from 30″ to 42″ outer diameter, and customizability. The 33″ classic MoodHoop size is smaller, lighter and more flexible, but the lightness makes it challenging to keep up. By contrast, the larger 36″ and 38″ hoops have more momentum when spinning, which makes them easier to keep up. The 36″ hoop is somewhere in between, and may be a good bet for children 10 and under. The golden rule of hoop sizing is: Bigger, heavier hoops are easier at first, but smaller and lighter hoops allow for more tricks and dance moves. For more details about sizing, and a hoop tubing reference chart, please visit to our Hoop Sizing Guide page. LED hoops are meant to be operated by adults. Insertion, removal, and charging of the batteries should only be done by adults. Like any exercise toy, overuse or careless use could result in personal injury.

Are MoodHoops collapsible?

Each of the standard build, full-size (33″, 36″, 38″, 42″) LED Moodhoops are collapsible for storage or travel :) Check out the video below on how to coil down your Moodhoop. Since the hoops open up, you can still partially collapse the hoop if you’re unsure about fully coiling it. Once the hoop is partially collapsed you can add zip ties in several places along the coiled tubing to keep it in a coiled shape. Please remember that kinked or cracked tubing is not covered by our warranty, so coiling your hoop should be done carefully and is at your own risk. If your tubing needs to be replaced just write in to us and we’re happy to get you fixed up and sent back to you quickly :) Check out the picture below to see a partially collapsed and zip-tied PolyPro hoop.

My button is missing on my hoop!

Not to worry, this is an easy fix! We have created a video just for you to help with this issue :)

  • 38″ OD – 8.4oz

Difficulty Closing Hoop

If you’re having difficulty closing your hoop, there’s an easy fix for this :) Hard to see dirt or debris can get into the hoop where it slides in, causing the hoop to become difficult to open or close. First take a moment to clean out the inner part of the outer cuff from any debris. Also wipe off the part of the hoop that slips into the outer cuff. Then take a small amount of Vaseline and apply it to the part of the hoop that slides into the cuff. Move it back and forth a couple of times and it should be able to slide easier. This little bit of cleaning and maintenance should make the tightness go away :) Please give this a try, as this is what will make it easier in most cases. It’s also good to check the shape of the tubing on the part of the hoop body that slips into the outer cuff. If the tubing end was compressed for some reason, this could also be why it’s become more difficult. To fix this, use your hands, or someone with a strong grip, to squeeze the end of the tubing in the opposite direction of the mis-shaped part. Meaning, if the tube end is slightly oval-shaped, squeeze it in the direction so that the ends sticking out are getting pushed back in to make a more complete circle.

LED Hoop Batteries

Battery care and safety

Can I use normal batteries in my hoop?

MoodHoops do not work with regular, store bought rechargeable batteries (NiMh). All MoodHoops can use only a single specialty lithium-ion battery (Li-ion) that cannot be purchased locally, and have special use and safety considerations. These lithium-ion batteries have more voltage than regular, store-bought NiMh rechargeable batteries and should never be put into any other device. If you are attempting to use other batteries than the ones provided with your hoop, you most likely have purchased regular NiMh AA rechargeable batteries, as the specialty Lithium-ion batteries used in Moodhoops are not available in most local stores. Regular AA batteries only put out 1/3 of the power needed to properly light up your Moodhoop, so these will not work. We offer extra and replacement batteries as singles or in 3-packs. Lithium-ion batteries can be purchased for your MoodHoop in our store here: http://moodhoops.com/shop/batteries   Please review the other FAQs about the batteries that come with the hoop and check out the link to the Battery Safety page below. Please review our Battery Safety page, which contains VERY important information regarding Battery Safety, Care, and Charging. Please also refer to the Instruction Manual that is sent with each hoop.

Are the batteries rechargeable?

Yes, all MoodHoops use rechargeable Li-Ion batteries. Remember that even rechargeable batteries have a limited lifespan. You should purchase backup batteries so you’re never out of charge at a bad moment (like during a night out dancing, or while entertaining friends).

Is a battery and a charger included with my hoop?

We offer 3 distinct LED hoop categories, Classic MoodHoops, the FutureHoop and Festival Hoops, and each one comes with it’s own battery kit. Classic MoodHoops and minis – each Large 38″ OD & XL 42″ OD Classic hoop in 7/8″ tubing comes with one large battery and one charger. All other sizes come with two small batteries and one charger. FutureHoop – each FutureHoop comes with 4 small rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and one charger. Festival Hoops – each Festival Hoop comes with one rechargeable lithium-ion battery and charger. Important note: NEVER USE TWO BATTERIES IN ANY OF THE HOOPS AT ONCE! Multiple batteries are just for swapping out so you can keep glowing!

Is it normal for my charger to be flashing between red and green while charging the battery?

Yes! That just means your battery is almost done charging, and it will soon be fully green :)

Even without use of a remote, all FuturePoi models are designed so both units have the ability to sync certain patterns and changes every 5 seconds by using the Click-through Menu by turning each unit off and then back on again. When in the Motif menu, at each pattern change the animation settings are randomized between the two units separately, so there will be a variance of color and the “stretch” of the pattern being displayed on the two separate units. By turning both units on at the same time, in the same pattern menu, this allows you to sync up the pattern changes in the pair. The remote control allows you to alter the tempo of the pattern change from than every 5 seconds. You can choose when the patterns change to a beat, or make you can make a change happen on queue. The FuturePoi also come with Sync Mode. This pre-randomized set of patterns allows your poi to have identical displays in the pattern, color, and stretch of the image, so you can get the symmetrical changes between the two poi units. You can reach Sync Mode by either the remote or by the Click-Through menu. The remotes also work on all other FuturePoi units! Line up all the FuturePoi you are trying to sync together and use the remote to create settings on all of them at once.

Fire Hoops

Fire Hoop Sizing Help

It’s good to purchase a hoop size that is closest to the size of the hoop that you’re most comfortable with your regular hoop size. The Fire Wicks will add about 5 inches to each end of the hoop, for a total of 10 inches added to the clearance of your hoop. Your regular sized hoop or a hoop little smaller is a good option for choosing a size.

Is the Five Wick Fire Hoop collapsible like a Moodhoops LED Hoop?

The Five Wick Fire Hoop is able to open and partially collapse, but is not able to fully collapse like a Moodhoops LED hoop.

Each of the hoop options available with the Five Wick Fire Hoop have an inner sleeve that cannot take the pressure from the hoop being collapsed and locked into place. Fully collapsing and closing the hoop will cause the inner sleeve to kink.

The locking snap button allows the hoop to be opened and partially collapsed, but the hoop should not be coiled and locked into place for storage. A kinked inner sleeve is not covered by Warranty.
We recommend using zip ties or some other sturdy method to partially collapse your hoop into a circular shape for storage or travel.

Can I add extra weight onto the Fire Hoop?

The 38” OD and 40” OD hoop options for the Five Wick Fire Hoop come in larger and slightly heavier 7/8” tubing, which is the largest tubing width we carry. Add extra weight and grip onto your hoop by adding different tapes for grip and decoration. The more tape added, the more your hoop will weigh :)
