Important Polypro Tips and Instructions
Hooping in cold temperatures increases the chance of the tubing becoming cracked, even from normal hooping moves.
Avoid storing your hoop in environments with extreme hot or cold temperatures.
PolyPro tubing is more brittle than the tubing used for many day hoops or LED hoops. Whereas a normal hoop will kink if you bend it, or bounce back when it’s smashed, PolyPro will crack. Avoid strong impacts against hard surfaces or sudden falls, to keep the hoop in the best shape.
The hoop uses a strong HDPE outer cuff, just like a standard Moodhoop, for flexibility and durability. The HDPE cuff may need gentle reshaping from time to time. While we don’t recommend collapsing your polypro Moodhoop, many customers do, and this trains your HDPE outer cuff into a strong curved shape.
We’re happy to work with you to get your hoop returned quickly if the tubing becomes cracked or damaged. If there is further damage to the hoop internals we will contact you about repair costs. Polypro tubing replacement is $45 for Moodhoops classic, with the other option of the hoop being retubed in HDPE in the same diameter for $35. FutureHoop retubing is $35.

Important disclaimer about PolyPro LED hoops vs PolyPro day hoops:
PolyPro is great for day hoops because it is lighter by volume than normal HDPE tubing. This gives you a silky-smooth, lightning-fast hoop for practice and performance. For LED hoops however, it has some disadvantages that you should be aware of.
Since LED hoops have batteries and counterweights inside, the lightness of PolyPro is not as noticeable.
Whereas HDPE tubing is flexible and absorbs impacts well, PolyPro tubing is brittle and prone to cracking on impacts or when extremely flexed. The added weight of LEDs, batteries, and counterweights only increases the chance of cracking.
With PolyPro LED hoops, certain moves like breaks, reversals, or even regular hooping can cause the tubing to crack. Also, some sort of trauma to the hoop, like a high impact hit or landing on it accidentally when trying to jump through it, is what can result in the hoop tubing becoming cracked.
Cracked, bent or kinked tubing is not covered by the Warranty. Check out the FutureHoop Warranty section at the bottom of the Warranty page.
See important Polypro LED Hoop Tips and Instructions below.

Please understand that we can’t re-tube used, cracked PolyPro LED hoops for free, but we are happy to refresh your tubing for a fee. The hoop would need to be shipped to us and the price includes the shipping back to you.

If you are at all unsure about whether you want your FutureHoop in PolyPro tubing, HDPE is definitely the better choice! There’s a reason why HDPE tubing is our default for LED hoops, while Polypro is our default for lightweight day hoops 🙂

Polypro LED hoops are made with the same collapsible design as our standard HDPE hoops. The tubing can be coiled down partially and zip-tied or taped into place for storage or travel to avoid stress on the tubing. Coiling down or collapsing your hoop should be done with great care, as cracked tubing is not covered by warranty.

When the hoop is in mid to high speed motion the tubing color difference is almost indistinguishable. When the hoop is moving slower you can see that the tubing is different and may notice a slight tint. The color difference will be the most notable when the hoop is on an all white setting. The hoop on the bottom is in clear polypro tubing on the white setting.

Our FutureHoops are handcrafted with 70-100 LEDs, depending on the size of the hoop. This applies to both 3/4″ and 5/8″ featherweight FutureHoops.

Category: FutureHoop

Check out the chart below to see eight differences between HDPE and polypro tubing
Regarding whether choosing polypro tubing changes the weight of the hoop, it does, but not by very much. You can see in the 3/4″ weights chart that the difference between the HDPE and polypro option is pretty small. And with the volume of the 5/8″ tubing, battery, and components of the hoop also being less than a 3/4″ hoop, the weight difference between the HDPE and polypro option is even less noticeable. When it comes to the difference of feel with a polypro hoop, there’s different ways people seem to describe it in comparison to HDPE. Some hoopers find polypro to be stiffer, while others find it to be more flexible.

The thickness of the tubing also affects the feel of both hoop polypro and HDPE hoops. With any 5/8″ hoop you’ll find that it’s more flexible than 3/4″ tubing. So in addition to the weight of the hoop it’s good to think about what kind of hooping style you’d like to use with the hoop. 3/4″ tubing is better for faster, more aggressive moves, while 5/8″ has a little more give you it. The same moves in a 5/8″ hoop you’d want to soften in 5/8″ so as not to warp the shape, or potentially kink the hoop.

With any polypro hoop through it’s important to remember that polypro tubing is known to be more brittle than HDPE, especially in cold weather and lower temperatures. The tubing is more clear, so the lights will shine through more crisply, as the HDPE has a subtle diffusing effect. But the HDPE is a more resilient tubing overall, and the light diffusion is still very pretty 🙂 There’s high points for each tubing type, but we still recommend HDPE as the default option for LED hoops, and polypro as a wonderful option for polypro day hoops 🙂

Hopefully this helps to shine a light on the differences between polypro and HDPE tubing 🙂

MoodHoops Design Remote and Performance Remote

The FutureHoop Pro and FutureHoop Remote hoops use the same software and both come with remote controls. The remote controls give you full access to manipulate and save patterns on the hoop, as well as set changes to a beat.

The patterns and usability between the Pro and Remote FutureHoops are the same, the only difference is how the hoops are powered, removable battery (Remote) or micro USB (Pro).

The Shuffle hoop cannot be stopped on one pattern and does not use a remote control.

Removable Battery design:

The FutureHoop Shuffle and Remote uses a removable battery design that allows you to swap in a new battery when the current one runs out of juice. Each battery will last 2-3 hours, depending on which Special Mode you’re in.

The removable battery design creates a break in the lights, as the battery is encased by an outer cuff.  To allow the battery to be removable, a slightly larger piece of tubing is used to encase the battery and is used as a closure for the hoop. You can also fully collapse this style of hoop, through this is done at your own risk, and may be especially risky in the smaller hoop diameters. Kinked or creased tubing is not covered by the warranty.

FutureHoop Remote:

The FutureHoop Remote uses the same remote controls as the FutureHoop Pro and comes with all of the same patterns and usability. The main difference is that the FutureHoop Pro has internal batteries and can only be recharged using a USB cord. The on/off mechanism, as well as the way to change through to the next Special Mode, even if you don’t have your remote controls, is to turn the hoop off and then on again. This will allow you to navigate through the click-through menus that are the Special Modes.

The FutureHoop Remote uses the same removable battery design as the FutureHoop Shuffle and all Classic LED Moodhoops. Because the battery is removable, this means you can continue hooping with full visuals as long as you have extra charged batteries on hand. You can also use the Brightness button on your remote controls to dim the lights and preserve the battery life.

FutureHoop Pro:

The FutureHoop Pro uses the same remote controls as the FutureHoop Remote and comes with all of the same patterns and usability. The FutureHoop Pro uses internal batteries that cannot be removed.

This hoop is charged using micro USB, which can be done from your wall outlet, car charger or laptop/computer. Unlike the removable battery design that allows you to keep using the hoop as long as you have extra charged batteries, this hoop will need to be recharged every 2-5 hours, depending on the patterns being used. You can also use the Brightness button on your remote controls to dim the lights and preserve the battery life longer.

FutureHoop Shuffle:

The FutureHoop Shuffle changes the pattern, colors and animation style every 5-8 seconds in 3 of the 4 Special Modes, giving you hooping experience that is both familiar and refreshing. The on/off switch of the hoop is used to click through to the next Special Mode. The patterns shuffle continuously, but don’t allow stopping on a pattern, keeping the focus on a more ready-to-play design, so you can focus on your flow. There are 4 Special Modes in the FutureHoop Shuffle: Motif, Spiral, Iso, and Galaxy.

Grip:

FutureHoop Remote & Pro come with 3M grip tape along the inner ring of the hoops.

The FutureHoop Remote and FutureHoop Pro use sensors to be able to pick up the button press signals from the remote controls. It’s best not to use regular grip tape with this hoop, as the grip tape (whether in black or white) blocks the signal and shortens the signal distance. Sanding and waxing the hoop does not affect the signal and is the best option for hoop grip that does not interrupt the remote control signal.

The FutureHoop Shuffle comes lightly sanded with hoop wax applied. Write in to us before you order, or right after you’ve placed your order, and we’d be happy to make the change.

Category: FutureHoop

Now that the FutureHoop Remote hoop is released we will begin working on a programmable hoop that you can use to create your own patterns and upload custom logos.

Category: FutureHoop

FutureHoop Remote, FutureHoop Pro and FutureMinis use sensors to communicate with the remote controls. It’s best not to use regular grip/gaffer tape with this hoop, as the tape (whether in black or white) blocks the signal and shortens the signal distance.

FutureHoop Shuffle does not have sensors or remotes and can use any kind of grip tape.

Sanding and waxing the hoop does not affect the signal and is the best option for hoop grip without using tape that does not interrupt the remote control signal.

Can I upgrade my FutureHoop?

FutureHoops cannot be upgraded but they can be resized and made with an internal battery connection (no outer cuff).

Can I upgrade the current FutureHoop when the next gen hoop is released?

The current FutureHoop is not able to be upgraded to the next gen FutureHoop. The components, build and programming are specific to the next gen design.

Each FutureHoop model has a snap button closure so it can be opened, which allows the hoop to be collapsible, so it can be coiled down for travel. Depending on how comfortable you are collapsing your hoop will ultimately determine if it will be fully coiled down.

Collapsing your hoop should be done extremely carefully, as kinks or cracks in the tubing are not covered by the Warranty, and can damage your hoop.

Check out more information about the collapsible ability of all LED MoodHoops on our Hoop Features page: http://moodhoops.com/hoop-features/

FutureHoop Pro

FutureHoop Pro features a no battery-gap design and internal batteries that charge via USB. At the the on/off closure there is one small segment of lights removed to make room for the switch. The brightness of the lights and movement of the hoop make this hard to see for most patterns and especially when the hoop is in motion.

FutureHoop Remote & Shuffle

FutureHoop Shuffle and Remote have a battery gap where the removable battery is able to be changed out. This removable battery design lets you run full color visuals all night long as long as you have new batteries.

5/8″ FutureHoops

The battery gap for the 5/8″ Featherweight FutureHoop is longer than the FutureHoop Shuffle or Remote in 3/4″ tubing. Please reference the picture below for a comparison.

If you’ve just checked out for FutureHoop or Classic hoop Services you’re probably wondering where to send your hoop!

Please allow 1 business day for Customer Service to email you complete instructions for how to send in your hoop.

For starts though, here’s some info on how to get your hoop ready for shipment:
If you no longer have the box the hoop came in you can use two large, flat pieces of cardboard, approx 20″ x 20″ x 2”, and tape around the edges with the hoop inside.

Check out the chart below to see eight differences between HDPE and polypro tubing

The Festival Hoop uses the same great build features as a classic MoodHoop, with a removable battery and fully collapsible design.

Festival Hoops use less power by using less LEDs, which makes them great for beginners, outdoor events or all-night parties.

Classic MoodHoop features:

  • comes in many sizes and colors
  • customizable
  • more LEDs

Festival Hoop features:

  • comes in one size and select designs, not customizable
  • less LEDs
  • very good good battery life

One size and style simplicity is what helps us to keep the price low for this great hoop. This hoop is a fun, durable build that’s great for a beginner, children, or as an inexpensive hoop to take to festivals and events.

If you’re having difficulty closing your hoop, there’s an easy fix for this 🙂 Hard to see dirt or debris can get into the hoop where it slides in, causing the hoop to become difficult to open or close.

First take a moment to clean out the inner part of the outer cuff from any debris. Also wipe off the part of the hoop that slips into the outer cuff. Then take a small amount of Vaseline and apply it to the part of the hoop that slides into the cuff. Move it back and forth a couple of times and it should be able to slide easier. This little bit of cleaning and maintenance should make the tightness go away 🙂

Please give this a try, as this is what will make it easier in most cases. It’s also good to check the shape of the tubing on the part of the hoop body that slips into the outer cuff. If the tubing end was compressed for some reason, this could also be why it’s become more difficult. To fix this, use your hands, or someone with a strong grip, to squeeze the end of the tubing in the opposite direction of the mis-shaped part. Meaning, if the tube end is slightly oval-shaped, squeeze it in the direction so that the ends sticking out are getting pushed back in to make a more complete circle.

Not to worry, this is an easy fix! We have created a video just for you to help with this issue 🙂

Moodhoops offers two different types of tubing, HDPE & Polypro, and 3 different tubing sizes, 7/8″, 3/4″ and 5/8″ for LED hula hoops. All tubing widths are measured by the Outer Diameter (OD). Taped day hoops will often use black irrigation tubing (PE), which can be found at hardware stores, and are measured by the Inner Diameter (ID). Check out the picture below for more detail.

OD = outer diameter of the hoop (measured across the widest part of the hoop, including the width of the tubing)

Classic Hoop weights (including battery):

There’s not one single answer to that question, but it’s partially dependent on skill level. The golden rule of hoop sizing is: bigger, heavier hoops are easier to keep up and slower to hoop with. Smaller hoops are lighter and more versatile for dance moves, but more challenging to keep up while core hooping.

For all the details, refer to our Hoop Sizing Guide.

PolyPro is great for day hoops because it is lighter by volume than normal HDPE tubing. This gives you a silky-smooth, lightning-fast hoop for practice and performance. For LED hoops however, it has some disadvantages that you should be aware of.

Please understand that we can’t Warranty used, cracked PolyPro LED hoops for free, but we are happy to refresh your tubing for a fee. If you are at all unsure about whether you want a PolyPro LED hoop, just get a normal hoop! There’s a reason why HDPE is our default for LED hoops, while PolyPro is our default for lightweight day hoops 🙂

Since the hoops open up, you can still partially collapse the hoop if you’re unsure about fully coiling it. Once the hoop is partially collapsed you can add zip ties in several places along the coiled tubing to keep it in a coiled shape.

Please remember that kinked or cracked tubing is not covered by our warranty, so coiling your hoop should be done carefully and is at your own risk. If your tubing needs to be replaced just write in to us and we’re happy to get you fixed up and sent back to you quickly 🙂

MoodHoops measures all hoops and tubing thicknesses using the Outer Diameter measurement (OD).

Since tubing has both an Outer Diameter and an Inner Diameter, you may see other hoop companies refer to sizes by ID rather than OD.

If you are unsure about how to convert the size, please contact us with your desired measurement and tubing thickness and we will help you convert it 🙂

Batteries

The lithium-ion batteries that light up your LED hoop have three times the power of the normal batteries that you can find in the grocery store. These special batteries need extra care, maintenance, and consideration during use, storage, and transport.

Visit our Battery Safety and Care page for important details.

Category: Batteries

Yes, all MoodHoops use rechargeable Li-Ion batteries.

Remember that even rechargeable batteries have a limited lifespan.

You should purchase backup batteries so you’re never out of charge at a bad moment (like during a night out dancing, or while entertaining friends).

Category: Batteries

Yes! That just means your battery is almost done charging, and it will soon be fully green 🙂

Category: Batteries

Please review our Battery Safety page, which contains VERY important information regarding Battery Safety, Care, and Charging. Please also refer to the Instruction Manual that is sent with each hoop.

MoodHoops do not work with regular, store bought rechargeable batteries (NiMh). All MoodHoops can use only a single specialty lithium-ion battery (Li-ion) that cannot be purchased locally, and have special use and safety considerations.

These lithium-ion batteries have more voltage than regular, store-bought NiMh rechargeable batteries and should never be put into any other device.

If you are attempting to use other batteries than the ones provided with your hoop, you most likely have purchased regular NiMh AA rechargeable batteries, as the specialty Lithium-ion batteries used in Moodhoops are not available in most local stores. Regular AA alkaline batteries only put out 1/3 of the power needed to properly light up your Moodhoop, so these will not work.

We offer extra and replacement batteries as singles or in 3-packs. Lithium-ion batteries can be purchased for your MoodHoop in our store here: http://moodhoops.com/shop/batteries

FuturePoi & FutureStaff

The programming in the FuturePoi Lite and FuturePoi Shuffle is slighly different. The FuturePoi Lite will have identical settings on both poi when using them in Motif mode or Waveform mode, whereas the FuturePoi Shuffle will display the same patterns, but the colors and drawing settings will be randomized each time. Both the Shuffle and Lite models will always change to the next pattern at the same time (every 5 seconds), as long as they are turned on at the same time

With the FuturePoi Lite, the patterns will always be those exact “preset” patterns every time you switch to Motif or Waveform mode. The units don’t ‘talk to’ each other so by having the exact same settings (pattern + colors), the two poi look identical and are symmetrical while spinning (as long as they are turned on at the same time). So each time you turn on the FuturePoi Lite the patterns will always be the same “preset” patterns, which cannot be changed. With the FuturePoi Shuffle, it will always have the same patterns between the two poi, but the setting randomization creates a little more variety..

Hardware-wise, the FuturePoi Shuffle can be converted to a FutureStaff Shuffle with the staff attachment, allowing you to switch between poi handles and a staff extension piece for multi-prop usage. The FuturePoi Lite has built in leashes that are not interchangeable with our staff attachment. The tubing we use for the FuturePoi Lite is more transparent than the FuturePoi Shuffle, which has more of a milky white tubing that gives the lights a slight diffusion.

Now that the FuturePoi Remote and FuturePoi XL have been released we will begin working on programmable poi that you can use to display your own patterns and upload custom logos and images.

Looking to purchase a FuturePoi/Staff Attachment piece in a custom size?

Please contact us through this form and we can answer any questions about a custom sized Staff attachment piece and other options 🙂

Yes! There are a couple of ways to sync your FuturePoi. The FuturePoi Remote and XL models come with a remote control to give you more fine-grained control over the change speed, patterns displayed, as well as 12 Save slots for Motifs or Waveforms, and 2 Save slots for Motif Chaining.

Even without use of a remote, all FuturePoi models are designed so both units have the ability to sync certain patterns and changes every 5 seconds by using the Click-through Menu by turning each unit off and then back on again.

When in the Motif menu, at each pattern change the animation settings are randomized between the two units separately, so there will be a variance of color and the “stretch” of the pattern being displayed on the two separate units.

By turning both units on at the same time, in the same pattern menu, this allows you to sync up the pattern changes in the pair. The remote control allows you to alter the tempo of the pattern change from than every 5 seconds. You can choose when the patterns change to a beat, or make you can make a change happen on cue.

The FuturePoi also come with Sync Mode. This pre-randomized set of patterns allows your poi to have identical displays in the pattern, color, and stretch of the image, so you can get the symmetrical changes between the two poi units. You can reach Sync Mode by either the remote or by the Click-Through menu.

The remotes also work on all other FuturePoi units! Line up all the FuturePoi you are trying to sync together and use the remote to create settings on all of them at once.

In FuturePoi/FutureStaff Shuffle/Lite graphical settings randomize in the click-through modes and shuffle the pattern continuously every 5 seconds. The pattern generator shuffles automatically so you can focus on your flow.

The poi are turned Off then On again to change modes. To sync up change rate of the FuturePoi without a remote, simply turn them on at the same time in the same Special Mode.

Use Sync mode in any of the models by turning them on at the same time. If timed correctly in Sync mode you can have multiple units, or just the pair, displaying identical patterns and changing at the same rate.

To control the change rate, animation speed and color settings, get the FuturePoi Remote or XL.

In order to focus on durability and beginner friendliness, FuturePoi do not have a programming port. We are not able to add custom patterns, our microchips are full for now!

Fire Hoops

The Five Wick Fire Hoop is able to open and partially collapse, but is not able to fully collapse like a Moodhoops LED hoop.

Each of the hoop options available with the Five Wick Fire Hoop have an inner sleeve that cannot take the pressure from the hoop being collapsed and locked into place. Fully collapsing and closing the hoop will cause the inner sleeve to kink.

The locking snap button allows the hoop to be opened and partially collapsed, but the hoop should not be coiled and locked into place for storage. A kinked inner sleeve is not covered by Warranty.

We recommend using zip ties or some other sturdy method to partially collapse your hoop into a circular shape for storage or travel.

Five unused Fire Wicks weigh approx 8 ounces total, not including the weight of fuel.
Add 8 ounces onto the weight of one of the hoop sizes and tubing types below.
Each individual Fire Wick weighs 1.6 ounces.

Approximate Fire Hoop Weights:

  • 40″ OD = 9.2 oz
  • 38″ OD = 8.4 oz
  • 36″ OD = 8.2 oz
  • 33″ OD = 7.2 oz
  • 30″ OD = 6.4 oz
  • 20″ OD = 3.6 oz each mini

OD = Outer Diameter

Category: Fire Hoops

It’s good to purchase a hoop size that is closest to the size of the hoop that you’re most comfortable with your regular hoop size. The Fire Wicks will add about 5 inches to each end of the hoop, for a total of 10 inches added to the clearance of your hoop. Your regular sized hoop or a hoop little smaller is a good option for choosing a size.
