Tubing Size Conversion Calculation
Want to know how the measurements all break down? The outer diameter, or OD, is the measurement across the widest part of the hoop, including the width of the tubing. We list our hoops as outer diameter only, but you can calculate the inner diameter as well.
5/8″ and 3/4″ is the measurement for the outer diameter of the tubing (tubing thickness). 5/8″ is the smaller/thinner tubing (featherweight hoop) while the 3/4″ tubing is the standard size we offer for our hoops.
3/4″ = 0.75 inches per each side of the hoop.
0.75″ + 0.75″ = 1.5 inches difference between ID and OD.
5/8″ = 0.625 inches per each side of the hoop.
0.625″ + 0.625″ = 1.25 inches difference between ID and OD.
To get the inner diameter of a hoop you would add together both sides of the width of the tubing (either 5/8″ or 3/4″), then subtract that amount from the outer diameter to get the measurement of the inner diameter.
Examples:
If you have a 27″ ID hoop with 5/8″ tubing, the closest outer diameter size would be 28″ OD. 27″ ID + 0.625″ + 0.625″ = 28.25″ OD
If you have a 27″ ID hoop with 3/4″ tubing, the closest outer diameter size would be 29″ OD, but you can also round down to 28″ if you’d like to work towards a smaller size: 27″ ID + 0.75″ + 0.75″ = 28.5″ OD
