Getting Started

NOTE: On smaller fire fans you’ll feel the heat. We HIGHLY recommend fire-resistant gloves.

Your fire fans were designed with spinning in mind. The handholds provide 2 grip styles for two different kinds of spins: gunslinger-style finger spinning and thumb spinning.

As with all fire fans, when you position the wicks below your hands, the heat of the flames rise upwards towards you. To keep the flames and heat tolerable you must keep the fans moving or hold them at a slight angle so the heat rises away from you.

Accidental impacts

Your fans were designed to be both lightweight and durable, but they are not indestructible. Reasonable care should be taken to prevent damage, such as keeping them out of areas where people might walk or drive over them. While these are designed to handle non-abusive impacts with the ground, impacts should be avoided as much as possible. The fan frame steel will bend rather than breaking, but repeated bending will eventually cause failure. If your frame is slightly bent out of shape, you can bend it back into shape by hand.

Rust prevention

Your fan frames are coated with a natural, environmentally-friendly vegetable oil. The oil will help protect the steel from rust. The portion of your fans near the wicks will become black and sooty with use. This is normal for fire tools and will further provide further protection against rust. The finish may need to be touched up if the fans are exposed to excessive moisture. Simply rub vegetable oil (the same kind you cook with) onto the steel with a paper towel and let it soak overnight, wiping off any excess the following day.
