I’m a 19 year old self taught hooper who wants to be the very best like no one ever was. To hoop them is my real test, to train them is my cause. I will travel across the land, hooping far and wide. Each plastic hoop to understand the power that’s inside!
When did you begin your journey into the flow arts, and how were you inspired to start?
I started hooping almost 4 years ago when a saw a viral video of a girl hula hooping on her knees and bringing it to her chest. I actually ordered my first hoop from mood hoops that day and spent all week practicing in front of a mirror!
Why do you love the experience of performing?
When I started dancing in high school, I was terrible. I remember the first time I stepped on stage and every part of my body was shaking. Once I stepped off I realized how much fun it was. Now I walk on stage with all of the confidence in the world and get to do something that makes me extremely happy. The adrenaline rush of being on stage is a rush that cannot be replaced.
How has being a part of the flow community touched your life? How can the flow community make an impact and how do you see yourself being a part of it?
The flow community has changed my life in ways I can’t even explain. When I started I had no clue what I was doing. With the critiques and inspiration of thousands of hoopers, I’ve been able to turn many dreams into reality and I’m more than grateful to the flow community!
In a nutshell, how would you describe your unique style of flow? Are there artists or dance styles that you take inspiration from?
I have moments where I like to “rage hoop” and hoop as fast as I can, and moments where I like to add a lot of dance to certain parts of my flow. I definitely get a lot of inspiration from Lee Jeffries, Jaimie Hayes and Grace Good, who are also amazing friends!
What are your main props/specialties?
Hula hooping is definitely my strongest and I pick up a hoop each day. Fire fans are a good strength for me as well, considering I love to dance around with them and lose myself! I am a fire water in training and have fallen in love with it. Other than props, most of all, my strength is dance. I enjoy adding dance aspects to everything I do.
Is there a particular aspect about the hooping or flow community that you’re passionate about? How do you envision your influence?
I love how I could go to any state, make a post, and find hoopers everywhere. I love how open and amazing a lot of hoopers are!
I feel like I can influence those who never wanted to try, or who wanted to give up, and maybe inspire them to keep going and push a little further!
Where do you like to practice the most?
My mom is a personal trainer and turned our garage into a studio/gym. So when I’m trying to nail new combos, I practice in front of the mirrors. Once I feel I understand the concept, I go straight outdoors where no walls can barricade my hooping- ha ha !
Do you have any flow related personal successes that you’d like to share?
My biggest success was when Fox TV flew me to New York to be on TV with Steve Harvey at The Apollo.
I became more than inspired by those around me and made lifelong friends!
I’ve also been able to perform at Electric Forest, Mala Luna, as well as a few smaller places like Elementary schools, and even a shaved ice store.
I’ve been featured in a few Texas news articles and also on hooping.org
Each event has pushed and inspired me even more!
Are you a part of a flow community or flow meet-up? Are there any local flow gatherings near you?
Yes, we meet every Tuesday! I like to hold special events for holidays or special days like world hoop day. I like to be in charge of setting up events and gathering everyone together.
Do you teach, mentor or create tutorials?
I teach private lessons, Skype lessons, and workshops! I’m starting to do more tutorials on my YouTube page as well.
Are you in a troupe or performance group?
I will be starting a team very soon!
At which festivals/events/retreats can you be found in 2017?
I plan on being at shaky beats, euphoria, imagine festival, and hopefully much more. I will be performing for a lot of weddings in the start of the year and hope to perform for the other events I’m attending.
Are you an active performer?
I am an active performer. I will be bringing in the new year of 2017 doing what I love at Lights all night: http://lightsallnight.com/dallas/
Met some really amazing artists backstage at Mala Luna; http://malalunamusicfestival.com
I’ve also had the honor of performing at Electric forest, and even got Steve Harvey to hula hoop on Fox TV at Showtime! At the Apollo !
Where do you aim to hone your skills in 2017? Have you taken on any new props or specialties recently?
I hope to create more of a contemporary dance and jazz impact throughout my flow within this year. I would also like to become better with my fire fans.
Aren't ya glad to meet me? 💕🎶
