Laeana (pronounced “LAY-ana”) is a hoop dancer from Long Island, New York, specializing in the art of flow and multi-prop dabbling. Inspired by a marvelous Black hoop maven, @Shani_Anne_Marvelous, wielding a magical vortex trick, Laeana started her hoop flow journey in May 2020 during the lockdown. She has devoted much of her time and energy into developing her unique contemporary/lyrical flow style and also fostering cultural diversity within the flow arts community through her initiative BIPOC Flow Artistry (@BIPOCFlowArtistry) just one month into her flow journey.
Hooping and the flow arts community have been beneficial to both Laeana’s physical and mental health. The love and support that has and continues to surround her have been invaluable to her growth. Her mission is to show others the same love and support, as well as share how hooping and flow arts have transformed her self-limiting beliefs, and spreading laughter and positivity wherever she goes.
After attending her very first flow festivals @SpinsanityFlowDown and @MichiganHoopDance Retreat, Laeana has been fired up for 2021, starting social media challenges such as the worldwide #JUMBOhoopChallenge, and releasing her very first Fall Collection in her new shop, Flow Lovers Apparel @FlowLoversApparel).
When Laeana isn’t hooping, she can be found working full-time as a Speech Language Pathologist, and enjoying her spare time with roller skating, meeting up with flowmies locally, singing, playing the drums, creating graphic designs, or discovering more flow props and skills to try.
