Dune - Playa del carmen, Mexico
Hi, my name is Dune. I am 25 years old, originally from France, and currently living in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
As far back as I can remember, my life has always been connected to movement. Dance, trapeze, gymnastics—movement has always been a part of who I am.
I discovered flow arts at the age of 14 through YouTube and the French raveparty23. This is where I first encountered poi, hula hoops, and other flow props, and where my passion for this art form began. At the time, I was an anxious teenager with several neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD, dyslexia, dysorthographia, dyscalculia, and others). Playing with poi, hula hoops, and devil stick became a form of freedom for me—a kind of medicine. I used flow arts daily at school because it helped me regulate myself and focus afterward.
Hula hooping came back into my life in 2022, years after those playground sessions. I started with one hoop, but I quickly got bored. Then came two, three, four, five, and finally six hoops.
Hula hooping is my passion, my stress relief, and my profession.
I began my professional journey as a flow artist in 2022, performing on the streets—first at traffic lights, then in public squares, restaurant terraces, and on the beach, living from audience donations. Today, I perform with several companies throughout Mexico’s Riviera Maya at weddings, hotels, resorts, private events, and special performances.
I am constantly exploring different disciplines within movement and circus arts, including flying trapeze, aerial silks, pole dance, pyrotechnics, dance, and flow arts.
My goal is to join a professional circus school so I can continue pushing my body and creativity further by developing more complete acts that incorporate contortion, acrobatics, hand balancing, and other circus disciplines.
q & a
My primary specialty is multi-hoop performance with both fire and LED hoops, typically using between three and six hoops.
I particularly enjoy in-body hooping as well as creating mandala and flower patterns with multiple hoops.
I love dancing in sync with the music and entering a trance-like state with my hoops.
Classical ballet and jazz dance are major inspirations for me. I am drawn to their dramatic and extraordinary qualities.
When I perform, I enjoy blending different disciplines, combining dance, flexibility, acrobatics, and flow arts into a single expression. I am also deeply inspired by rhythmic gymnastics, whose athletes I find absolutely incredible.
I train almost everywhere: on the beach, in parks, at circus schools, or in my own garden.
Honestly, if I could permanently have two hula hoops in my hands while doing my daily tasks, life would probably be easier! That’s partly because of my ADHD, but it’s also because I never miss an opportunity to play with my hoops.
One of the things I love most is that hula hoops constantly help me meet new people and make new friends wherever I go.
What I love most about this community is the sense of connection. We recognize each other no matter the country, language, or culture.
Everywhere I have traveled, I have met flow artists and found the same easy, welcoming, and supportive friendships. Beyond our shared passion for movement, it is our humanity that truly brings us together.
I would love to teach more, offering regular weekly classes as well as workshops at festivals where I perform.
I also love being on stage and sharing that energy with audiences. If my performances can inspire even one person to begin their own journey into movement arts, then I consider that a success.
